September 4, 2009 >> New Meeting Time
The first Alliance general meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday September 15th at 6:30 PM in Baldwin Main lounge. Meetings for the semester will take place there on Tuesdays at 6:30. See you there!
August 15, 2009 >> New Year
At a meeting at the end of the spring 2009 semester, members voted to elect Paula Plazas as co-chair to replace graduating senior Tom Basgil. Tom will be remembered by the Alliance for co-founding the Alliance Support Group with alumna Carolyn Nasuti ('07), and for his tireless work last fall to ensure that Judy Shepard's visit to campus went smoothly. Paula has previously held the position of secretary.
As the Alliance prepares for the Fall 2009 semester, we have several events in the works. Keep a sharp eye out for flyers when you arrive on campus for more details. We are also in the process of planning our annual drag show--time, place and date TBA.
Unless otherwise announced here, our general meetings for the fall 2009 semester will be Wednesdays at 6:30 PM in the Baldwin main lounge. Have a great semester and see you there!
April 15, 2009 >> Judy Shepard, Marriage Equality Rally, and Day of Silence
Judy Shepard's visit to Drew's campus on March 4th was covered by the Acorn. The event was attended by over 300 guests and was a huge success!
On April 4th, a rally organized by the Alliance and Montclair State University's Spectrums took place on campus, and was covered by the Acorn. Pictures from the rally are soon to be posted. Stay tuned!
Day of Silence is this Friday the 17th. Stop by the Alliance table any time this week to pick up a patch to show your support. Night of Noise festivities will begin at 4 PM Friday in the UC Courtyard (rain location: UC Lounge). See you there!
February 2, 2009 >> New Board & Judy Shepard
At meetings last semester, Arielle Sorenson ('12) was elected to be our new publicity chair, Anthony DeSalis ('11) was elected as our new treasurer, and Alex Alfaro ('11) was elected to be acting secretary while our former secretary studies abroad. Welcome, new board members!
Join the Alliance as we prepare to host Judy Shepard's visit to campus on Wednesday, March 4th, and stay tuned for updates on Day of Silence, which is to take place on Friday, April 17th. See you there!
August 4, 2008 >> New Name, Board & Facebook Group
At a meeting this spring, members of the Alliance voted on and passed a motion
to change the group name from GLBTQ Alliance to Alliance. The vote
was one vote short of unanimous.
In other news, our new board has been elected.
For the first time in many years, the Alliance has elected two co-chairs. You can see
contact information for the new board here.
The Alliance has also started a new Facebook group. Join to receive notifications
on Facebook of upcoming Alliance events. Check it out here!
March 20, 2008 >> Day of Silence
Day of Silence (April 25) is fast approaching, and we have lots of
great ideas in the works! E-mail
us
for details or if you're interested in getting involved!
We're also planning a handful of other events for April, including the
Alphabet Soup Conference with Montclair State University. Check out the
Events Calendar!
Next week, we'll be electing our new board for the 2008-2009 academic
year. Check back when we'll announce our new members!
February 16, 2008 >> Event Calendar
We've added a calendar with the latest updates for meeting times and
planned events. Check it out here!
February 10, 2008 >> Back for another semester!
So Spring 2008 is officially in gear, and the Alliance has some really
cool events and ideas that we're looking forward to. Feel free to check
out the Archive, where we have an outline
of some of the things we'll be working on through April.
In other news, we've decided to move our general meeting time back to
Wednesdays at 6:00pm. Same day, same place, just half an hour
later. We hope that the new time is more convenient for everyone, so if
you haven't made it to a meeting in a while, stop by!
Finally, a new semester always means new faces. We had a little change
in our nuclear board over break, so congratulations to our new
Treasurer, Aaron Ray! (Who, by the way, is our first male
treasurer, thus proving that we're all about breaking down stereotypes
here.)
So that's it for now. See you all Wednesday!
