The Drew University Alliance is a student-run organization that works toward unifying the GLBTQ community with outer communities through education and awareness. Additionally, the Alliance works toward...
- Providing a safe place for people to express and find support in issues concerning their sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Providing a group that raises the awareness of the community by hosting informative events such as guest speakers, informative work shops, panel discussions, and field trips.
- Eliminating the harassment of and violence against sexual minorities.
- Confronting and debunking myths, stereotypes, and social prejudices towards the GLBTQ community.
- Providing a group that hosts events that allow members of our group to socialize in an accepting atmosphere with other people of similar backgrounds.
Meetings are held on a weekly basis. All are welcome to attend, but please keep in mind that we do have some general rules that apply to all of our meetings, whether they are general or for our support group. Since the subject matter may tend to be serious, we ask you to consider both the feelings and rights to privacy of other members.
- Names are not to be mentioned outside of meetings, without the permission of the person. You may talk about what was said, but may not use names.
- You may not put down anyone while in the meeting.
- Try to keep an open mind about what is said in the meetings.
- Do not assume or discuss the sexual orientation or gender identity of other members or non-members. You may choose to disclose your sexual orientation or gender identity, but only if you feel comfortable.
- You are encouraged to speak at meetings, but if you do not feel comfortable, you do have the right to pass.
- Try to have fun! We may be a serious group, but we all need to cut back sometimes.
