Who can call The Good Line?

Any Drew student who is experiencing emotional difficulty or who would like more information for themselves or a friend about certain psychological issues. Examples of the types of calls that are received on The Good Line would be; relationship issues, problems with roommates, problems with families, school problems, and coping with stress. The Good Line is an excellent resource for obtaining information and referrals to deal with any individual problem more specifically. All calls are strictly confidential.

When can I call The Good Line?

The Good Line is open everyday (excluding winter/spring/summer break) from 5pm - 9am; however, someone might be available during off-service hours.

Who will I be speaking to?

All members of The Good Line staff are undergraduate Drew students trained by a professional psychologist from the Drew University's counseling center. The Good Line staff operators must attend weekly meetings throughout the semester. The meetings prepare The Good Line staff for a variety of situations that range from relationship issues to suicide. All Good Line operators must first be approved through a rigorous check-in process before they are allowed to attend the helpline. This ensures that all operators are able to adequately help you with any of your questions or issues.

Do I have to give my name or any personal information about myself?

Absolutely not. All calls are strictly anonymous, so you do not have to give your name. We do not have caller ID (nor would caller ID show your extension on the Drew campus) and will not be able to tell who you are.

Is anyone going to find out about my call?

All calls are kept strictly confidential. By law, we must report any calls in which harm to self or others is involved.

Do you have caller ID? Will you know who I am?

No. We do not have caller ID (nor would caller ID show your extension on the Drew campus). All calls are anonymous so you do not need to tell us your name or any other personal information so we will not be able to tell who you are.

Do I have to be in a major crisis to call?

No. Although we are trained to handle serious crisis calls, the majority of calls are from students wanting information on the various resources offered to facilitate problem solving, either for themselves or for their friends.

I am nervous about calling. Are there any other ways of getting in contact with you?

Yes. Although we highly encourage you to call The Good Line, especially if you are in a crisis situation, we understand that not everyone might feel comfortable calling. Please visit the Contact Us section of the website for several different ways of reaching us.
