Meet the Orientation Team
 |
Name: Melissa Yosua
I'm a second-year Masters of Divinity student
from Maine. I'm a United Methodist, and hope to go back to the New
England Conference to do parish ministry. My current ministry interests
center around the emerging church and reaching out to the postmodern
generation. I'm also a liturgy nut. I'm interested in reading science
fiction and fantasy novels, crafts such as knitting and cross-stitch,
blogging, and planning my wedding next August (to the orientation
coordinator! ;-) ). I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you! |

Name: Susan Mcrae
I am originally from Alexandria, Virginia. I am a 3+ year MDiv student, and currently not affiliated with any denomination. The early years of my adult life were spent teaching English and history, and raising my son, Bryan. In 1995, Bryan and I moved to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. I began to set aside my harried pace and ponder what was truly meaningful beyond raising my son, who until then I had referred to as the only “masters degree” I would ever need! I returned to my writing, my music, and my art over the next several years never imagining that at the tender age of fifty-three I would enter seminary. God truly works in mysterious ways.
The Drew community has helped me discover my passion: addressing the issues that face women and children who are victims of domestic violence, abuse, and poverty. I believe my ministry will include my love of the arts as healing and therapeutic, my passion for speaking and preaching as a liaison between communities of faith and private organizations, and my experience as an educator in developing informational and educational programs. I consider my time of study at Drew to be a freely given gift (see engraving in Greek over the front door of Seminary Hall) and I work to freely pass the blessings I receive to others. |

I am a second career MDiv student and am entering my third year of studies. As a lifelong United Methodist I am looking forward to my supervised ministry experience in the Cornwall United Church in Cornwall, NY. This will be done while carrying a full load of classes and continuing to drink in as much of campus life as possible. Where this will all lead, only God knows. As a certified candidate for ordained ministry in the United Methodist Church I am focusing on ordination in the Elder or new Deacon track. |
